The efficiency of the device and the storm sewer as a whole depends on the quality of the grating of the storm water inlet. If the fixture is not installed, the drain holes will quickly become clogged with debris. Without grates, storm water inlets do not look aesthetically pleasing. Purpose of gratings
The main purpose is to receive surface wastewater from streets, courtyards and other territories. The devices are used:

The cells in the grids are made in such a way as to pass, in addition to water flows, fine-grained debris. But at the same time, the size of the gaps does not allow large debris particles to enter the storm drains, preventing them from clogging.

Manufacturing material
Cast iron products are strong and durable. For their manufacture, only an especially strong grayish metal is used, covered on top with a layer of paint and varnish waterproofing material or galvanized.

Storm grates are also made of special frost-resistant polypropylene. It is immune to temperature extremes, the negative effects of chemicals, resistant to overload, but inferior in strength to metal. Polymer products are lightweight, which means they are easy to assemble. Installation does not require the use of special equipment, you can carry out the installation yourself.
Lattice types
- DB is a large rectangular structure, weighing 115 kg, dimensions 570x835x120 mm.
- DM - small devices of two types: DM1 weighing 60 kg and measuring 634x414x95 mm, DM2 weighing 89 kg and dimensions 924x480x95 mm.
- DK is a round device weighing up to 100 kg, with a section of 775 mm and a height of 120 mm.
The dimensions of the products may vary slightly, it depends on the specifications adopted by the manufacturer. Standard sizes of plastic storm grates are 30x30x30, 40x40x40 and 50x50x50 cm.
The classification of polymer products is based on the highest possible load. Depending on this indicator, they are divided into classes:
- A - up to 1.5 t. Used on private plots and paths for pedestrians.
- B - up to 12.5 tons. They are mounted in garage cooperatives, in car parks.
- C - up to 25 tons. Used on highways or gas stations.
- D - up to 40 tons. They hold the weight of the truck and are suitable for highways where the passage of such vehicles is allowed.
- E - up to 60 tons. They are placed at parking lots of trucks and in other places with increased load.
- F - up to 90 tons. They are used in the areas of movement of heavy machinery.
When choosing the class of the stormwater inlet, prefer the option, the load on which will be slightly more than the required value.
Criterias of choice
- the largest amount of precipitation - this data can be found by looking at SNiPs, in the same place it is necessary to clarify the maximums of snow cover;
- moisture absorption coefficient - depends on the coverage of the territory (crushed stone, soil of various types, concrete);
- the size of the site from which the drainage will be made.
When choosing a cast iron product, evaluate the quality of the anti-corrosion coating. The resin model must be equipped with a secure clip that connects it to the main device.
It is also necessary to take into account the distance between the grille slats. A fine mesh product looks more elegant, but the density of the intersecting slats leads to more droplet splashing, which gradually spoils the material around the grill.
The cost of products depends on the manufacturer, the size of the device and the material from which it is made. On average, prices for cast-iron grids of a storm water inlet are in the range from 2,800 to 7,000 rubles. Polymer products are cheaper - the price starts at 350 rubles.
The grates protect storm water inlets well from clogging, but they need to be cleaned regularly. If you do not neglect it, the sewer main will work without interruption for a long time.
