How to fix the problem of heating and cooling the air conditioner

The heating and cooling problem with the air conditioner can sometimes be corrected by yourself. What should the owners do when they find that the air conditioner is blowing warm air in cooling mode? Or vice versa: when heated, it gives out a cold stream?

The actions of the owners if the operation of the air conditioner is disrupted

• Carefully read the manual for the warm-cold air conditioner. Pay particular attention to the chapter "Troubleshooting". Sometimes the problem is that the equipment is turned off from the network, the filters are clogged, or the batteries at the remote control have sat down;

There is not enough freon in the system

This is the most common reason the air conditioner blows warm in cooling mode. Freon is a refrigerant that circulates through copper pipes from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit and vice versa.

When buying, freon is contained in the outdoor unit of the air conditioner. And during installation, it is distributed throughout the pipeline. Copper tubes are attached to the fittings using a rolling method. If this procedure is not performed well, freon evaporates.

This process also occurs with a quality installation, approximately 5% per year. If the system lacks 10-15% of freon, the air conditioner blows cold air on heating and does not cool in the "cold" mode. Another sign of low refrigerant content is frost or ice build up in the copper piping to the outdoor unit.

This problem can only be solved by masters from the service center. If you suspect a lack of freon, you should turn off the device and call specialists.

Compressor problem

If the air conditioner is blowing warm air in cooling mode, you need to look closely at some details.

For example:

• the thermal insulation of the cold line darkened;
• there is an oil leak on the outdoor unit.

These symptoms may indicate a problem with the compressor. You can find out about them by doing a compressor oil analysis.

• The oil smells burnt and is too dark, which means the compressor is running to its limit. It overheats when the air conditioner turns on for heating during frost or if there is not enough refrigerant;
• If the oil has acquired a greenish tint, there is water in the circuit.

In such cases, it is necessary to replace the oil, as its lubricating qualities decrease, which eventually leads to a compressor stop: the air conditioner blows cold air of the same temperature in any mode.
