Types and functions of ventilation tape
Depending on the purpose, the ventilation tape is:
- ridge;
- perforated (overhang aero element).
Insulated pitched roofs must be ventilated. In the absence of air exchange, moisture accumulates in the roofing cake, destroying the wooden supporting frame and roofing material. The insulating properties of the insulation deteriorate.
Condensation constantly collects under the roof without ventilation. In large quantities, it seeps through the ceiling, causing mold and spoiling the appearance of living spaces.
To prevent this process, it is necessary to ensure free movement of air in the roofing cake. Air enters here from under the cornice overhang (cornice vents) and exits through the ridge (ridge vents). A counter-beam is attached between the waterproofing and the roofing material, creating a gap for air movement. In such conditions, wooden roof structures will last longer than with constant exposure to moisture and fungus.

It should not be confused with a self-adhesive ventilation tape designed to seal frame profiles, pipelines and duct insulation seams.
Ridge ventilation tape
The ridge ventilation tape for the roof protects the ridge (rib) of the roof from the penetration of atmospheric precipitation. At the same time, it allows air and steam to pass from below, from the roofing cake, preventing the roofing material and rafter system from getting wet and rotting.
A sealing tape for ventilation is installed on the edge of the roof, a ridge is mounted on top of it.
Ridge ventilation and sealing tapes are made of aluminum foil, polyethylene, polypropylene textiles, the layers are glued together with butyl glue, and aluminum spraying is used as a protective layer. The ventilation tape is treated with UV protection compounds. The ridge ventilation tape has a ribbed structure, due to which it stretches by 20 - 40%. The warranty period of the tape is from 10 years.

The air permeability of the ridge ventilation tape is 270 - 300 grams per sq. meter.
The ventilation tape for the roof is designed for operation at temperatures of -30 ... + 80 degrees Celsius.
Moisture permeability - 3 - 6 grams per sq. meter per day.
A roofing ventilation tape is installed at an air temperature of +5 degrees.
Perforated straight ventilation tape
The purpose of the overhang ventilation tape is to cover the eaves from birds and insects, without disturbing the air exchange in the under-roof space and the appearance of the building. In addition, perforated ventilation tape is used to reinforce some roof structures.
Punched tape for ventilation is made from:
- perforated steel;
- perforated aluminum;
- polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Material thickness 0.55 - 1 mm. The holes are made in different shapes and sizes 3 - 8 mm. The width of the tape is 120 - 250 mm, the length of one piece is 10 - 30 m in coils. Punched tape is made for ventilation with smooth or wavy edges.
The tape for the ventilation overhang is attached to the structure with screws or nails. No additional tie-in is required, so the rigidity of the structure is ensured. All materials are resistant to moisture and ultraviolet radiation. When installed and operated in accordance with standards, the service life of the ventilation tape for the eaves overhang is from 10 years.
PVC ventilation tape
The PVC ventilation tape is distinguished by a longer service life and a variety of colors:
- white;
- brown;
- black;
- terracotta;
- red.
This palette allows you to choose a plastic (PVC) ventilation tape for almost any color of the roofing. The width of the PVC tape for ventilation is 10 cm. The PVC (plastic) ventilation tape is realized in rolls of 5 m.
