Why a cesspool is quickly recruited and what can be done

On the territory of many suburban areas, cesspools are being built, they require proper operation. Failure to comply with certain instructions is fraught with rapid filling of the pits.

Why does the pit fill up fast

There can be several reasons for the rapid filling of cesspools. There are two types of such "pits" - with an open and a closed bottom. In the case of the first variety, there is a drainage of drains into the ground. The second type is called a septic tank; a sewer machine is used to empty it. Sanitary standards prohibit the use of open cesspools, they pose a great threat to the soil and groundwater. If the owner of the land plot uses an open pit, he endangers his health. Runoff from the sewerage system can pollute the water, and this will lead to infection of the entire village if the water is taken from one pool.

Despite the ban, open-bottom pits are actively used in rural areas and even in cities. Often, temporary pits are equipped during the construction phase of private houses. During operation, they quickly fill up and there are various reasons for this.

  1. Insufficient volume.
  2. High groundwater level.
  3. Accumulation of a large amount of silt or fatty deposits on the bottom and walls.
  4. Freezing of the soil.
  5. Abundance of clay in the soil.

When arranging drain pits, it is not always possible to correctly calculate their volume. If, for some reason, the amount of wastewater increases, the septic tank may overflow. This often happens during snow melting in the spring, with heavy rains, oversaturation of the soil with moisture. With prolonged and heavy rainfall, the pits overflow even in the absence of drainage from the sewer.

The silted one and the walls cause a dense crust to form on them, which prevents moisture from leaving the soil.

Overflow of pits also occurs with excessive accumulation of fatty deposits. The water-repellent membrane prevents moisture from absorbing the walls and bottom.

Freezing of the soil leads to freezing of wastewater, the formation of an ice crust on the surface.

Unsuitable soil with a high concentration of clay does not allow water to go into the ground and the waste container overflows.

Methods for solving the problem

If the pit is filled to the limit and drains began to flow out of it, spilling over the territory of the site, contaminating the soil and spreading a stench, one of the following methods can eliminate the ecological catastrophe.

Calling a sewer truck

The most popular option is to call a sewer truck. The pumping process removes the maximum possible amount of silt deposits accumulated on the bottom and walls. Fat deposits are washed off with a jet of water supplied under pressure from a hose. With a dense structure of bottom sediments, a metal pipe or a long pole is used. The mass settled to the bottom softens and is easily pumped out using a pump.

If possible, after pumping out the drains, fill the pit again with clean water and perform a second pumping out.

Mechanical cleaning with folk remedies

Cleaning is also carried out manually. Folk remedies are used after emptying the pit with a cesspool machine.This approach makes it possible for a long time to get rid of deposits that were deeply carried into the bottom with walls. To do this, you need to go down into the pit and remove the soil from the walls and bottom with a shovel. Remove it to the surface in buckets and dispose of it outside the home. This is one of the most effective cleaning methods that does not require any financial investment.

This method is the only way to deal with the overflow of a drain hole dug in clay soil. The pit is deepened with a shovel until the end of the clay layer, several channels are formed in the bottom for effective drainage of wastewater.

Special filters help to reduce the amount of fatty deposits that interfere with the normal operation of the system. They are installed in the kitchen drain to collect excess fat.

Cleaning the drain pit with household chemicals

Many people use household chemicals to clean cesspools. There are several types of preparations with different chemical composition to choose from for cleaning open storage tanks:

  • formaldehyde;
  • bleaching powder;
  • nitrate oxidants.

Liquid formaldehydes are effective and inexpensive. The disadvantage of such drugs is their high carcinogenicity, the sanitary services do not advise their use. Formalin kills all bacteria in the drain pit, inhibits the decomposition processes.

Bleach has a high disinfecting effect. It is affordable, but you need to use it carefully, away from residential buildings - the reason for this is toxicity. The pit, covered with bleach, is certainly covered; in sunlight, the agent loses its activity, which ensures its effective interaction with organic matter.

Nitrate oxidants have the ability to dissolve silt deposits in the drain pit, to liquefy biological waste - this is an environmentally friendly tool, but its cost is higher than similar chemicals.

In the process of decomposition of waste by nitrates:

  • a fetid odor is eliminated;
  • the contents of the pit acquire a uniform consistency.

The resulting mass, with minor restrictions, can be used as fertilizer. The minus of nitrate oxidants is associated with a negative effect on iron, they provoke the formation of deposits on metal surfaces, overgrowing of steel pipe passages.

The ability to dissolve organic matter is possessed by ammonium salt cleaners. Under the influence of water, they are transformed into a highly concentrated alkaline solution. Ammonia preparations do a good job of dealing with fetid odors.

None of the chemicals removes wastewater, their main purpose is to liquefy solid and viscous waste for subsequent pumping out of sewers. They eliminate odors and have a disinfectant effect.

Biological cleaning

Biological preparations are also used to purify effluents. The bacterial-enzymatic method has its advantages: one of them is the production of safe sludge that can be used for fertilization. The storage tanks are cleaned by aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The former develop in the presence of oxygen, and the latter without it.

Biological products are produced in the form of:

  • powders;
  • granules;
  • tablets;
  • solutions.

They are neutral towards all building materials. These drugs are safe for humans.

The organization of the thermal insulation system helps to cope with the problem of freezing of the cesspool.

Measures to prevent this problem in the future

Proper maintenance of cesspools, compliance with all operating rules, helps to prevent the rapid filling of cesspools. Preventive measures include flushing the reservoir with high-pressure water at least twice a month. Owners of sites with cesspools are advised to regularly use biological products, to pump out sewage in a timely manner.

If the problem still occurs, it is necessary to remove the sediment or ice that has accumulated inside the collector.This problem can be solved in different ways. It is advisable to remove silt deposits with biological products, and to use the services of specialists to defrost the pit.
