The minimum temperature at which most models cope with their functions is -5 degrees. The lower the air temperature, the lower the cold performance is shown by the technician. The load on the compressor increases, and its resource decreases. The problem is solved by air conditioners with low temperature kits.

Purpose and composition of the low-temperature kit

• Electronic controller of the impeller speed of the outdoor unit... Installed in an external module, it is used to gradually decrease the fan speed when the temperature drops. Prevents blade icing at low operating temperatures of the air conditioner. The controller is equipped with an air conditioner temperature sensor, it is he who starts the change in rotation speed;
• Warming up the crankcase of the outdoor unit... It is an electrical wire. By heating at 60 watts, it raises the temperature of the oil in the crankcase, preventing it from thickening. Starting at low temperatures of the air conditioner is called "cold", it threatens the compressor;
• Heated drainage system... Mounted in the condensate drain system. Prevents ice formation;
• Thermostat... It is also supplied with a temperature sensor for the air conditioner. It turns on (depending on the model) at -30 degrees and turns off at +30 degrees. The air temperature from the air conditioner remains set by the user.

Types of low temperature kits

Some users immediately install an air conditioner with a low-temperature kit. And it is possible to complete an already mounted air conditioner. At the same time, the minimum operating temperature will change to -20, and sometimes to -25 degrees.

There are universal kits on sale that are suitable for almost all types of household and semi-industrial climatic equipment.

For example, an electric compressor heater can be purchased in a special design that adapts to any model. The heater is used to heat the oil in the compressor. This is the most important part of the winter kit. It contains a thermal sensor that can withstand the operating temperature range. The heater simultaneously prolongs the life of the compressor and reduces energy consumption without affecting the temperature of the air from the air conditioner.

There are also branded kits created by manufacturers only for their models. The second option will cost significantly more.
