A monoblock window is a great alternative to wall models. It does not require complex construction work, after which a lot of debris remains. The air conditioner can be installed independently without the help of specialists. The device is much cheaper than other models.

Advantages and disadvantages of a window air conditioner

Advantages of a monoblock window:

• Low price.
• Ease of installation. Installation does not require special qualifications and lengthy construction work: you need to remove the glass unit and insert the air conditioner into the window.
• The compact size allows you to place the product in any opening.
• The power of a window air conditioner can reach 8 kW, which is not inferior to expensive split systems.

Cons of the device:

• Installation involves the replacement or alteration of the window. If there is a double-glazed window, only the first option is possible.
• The air conditioner is quite noisy. This disadvantage applies to older models. In modern devices, manufacturers have tried to solve this problem.
• Improper installation of the window air conditioner will result in heat loss during winter.
• Do not cover the device with curtains.
• Staying near a window device for a long time can lead to a cold.

Window air conditioner functions

In addition to air cooling, a window-type air conditioner performs additional functions:

• A built-in touch sensor and electronic control unit monitor indoor temperature and humidity. The device turns on and off automatically depending on the settings.
• A special window in the grille provides ventilation mode.

Principle of operation

The window air conditioner consists of a compressor and an evaporator in a metal casing. The front panel is plastic. It has blinds that control the direction of the air flow, buttons and levers for control.

The principle of operation of the air conditioner is based on freon and refrigerant. The second is in a liquid state. With the help of a compressor, it is compressed and enters the pressure-raising device. At room temperature, it enters the evaporator, where it boils, releasing cold. The air flow created by the fan draws in cool air and carries it around the room.

Freon circulates in a confined space, taking in warm air and giving away cold air.

The air conditioner transfers cool air from the street to the room. The maximum temperature for work is -30 degrees.

The device has air filters that trap small insects, dust, hair, fluff.

Exploitation

In order for a window air conditioner to serve for a long time, you should follow the rules for its operation:

• Do not cover the device with curtains or curtains, otherwise its work will be limited only to this space and will not bring special coolness to the room.
• Maintain a slope of 1 to 2 degrees on the outside so that condensation can drain off normally.
• When installing the device, place the blinds on the outside of the wall.
• Do not install the air conditioner in places with high pollution and heat sources.
• Remove and wash the filters regularly, clean the case.
• If there is a malfunction, contact a specialist, do not try to fix the breakdown yourself.
• Do not set the device to temperature limits. The air cools and heats up gradually. The temperature difference between the room and the external environment should not be more than 7 degrees.

For a long and trouble-free operation of the device, it should be cleaned:

1. Unplug the air conditioner from the mains.
2. Remove the top panel.
3. Remove the main filter, rinse it under running water with a detergent and disinfectant.
4. Wait until the filter is completely dry and replace it.
5. Clean the front panel and housing with detergent and wipe with a cloth.

Cleaning is carried out 2 times a week. The external filter is cleaned every seven days.

The heat exchanger inside needs maintenance once a year:

1. Remove the top panel.
2. Remove the filter.
3. Clean your ribs with a vacuum cleaner or brush. The main thing is not to damage them, so as not to decrease the efficiency of the air conditioner.

At temperatures below 10 degrees, only the ventilation mode is turned on. Some models are capable of working in the cold season. This is indicated in the specifications of the device.

Selection options

A vent air conditioner should be purchased from specialized stores. Consultants will tell you in detail about the models, show them in operation. After the purchase, they will issue a receipt and a guarantee for the product.

When choosing a product, do not focus only on price. Compared to split-systems, monoblocks are quite cheap. The model of the most expensive brand is an order of magnitude lower in cost than wall-mounted air conditioners.

Pay attention to the power of the device. It is calculated by the square of the room. Also consider the size of the window into which the air conditioner will be inserted. Check the noise level at the store.

DIY window air conditioner installation

Do-it-yourself installation of a window air conditioner does not require special skills and abilities. Tools required for installation:

• puncher;
• jigsaw;
• replaceable drill chuck;
• hacksaws for metal and wood;
• chisel for working with wood;
• Bulgarian;
• glass cutter;
• level;
• flat and inner corner;
• water-based paint;
• paint brushes;
• silicone sealant.

In the first step, prepare the window opening. It should be 5-10 mm more at the edges than the air conditioner itself. The distance between the ceiling and the device is at least 20 centimeters. Position the appliance so that it is protected from rain and snow as much as possible. If there is no such place, a visor should be built to protect the air conditioner.

The monoblock can be installed not only in a window, but also in a thin wall.

In order for the condensate to drain from the device normally, its outer edge should be placed lower than the inner one, by about 10 millimeters. Seal any gaps between the window and the device with foam or sealant.

Take care of the power supply after installation. If the monoblock consumes less than 3 kW, a regular outlet will do. With more power, you will need to make the wiring from the shield.
