Sometimes, during transportation or use, small dents appear on the surface of wooden furniture. In this case, you do not need to change the bedside table or coffee table - an uncomplicated way of smoothing wood through a damp cloth will help.
What damage can be removed
With a point impact, the wood fibers change shape and a small depression forms on the surface. The method of soaking damaged furniture with water is suitable if the depth of the formed dent is no more than 2 mm.
Wet wood is capable of straightening by itself.
Soft breeds especially quickly return to their original state: spruce, pine, cedar, linden, mahogany. Canadian maple, ash, oak, black pine and walnut, from which cabinet furniture is often made, are much harder. However, you can also try to put them in order with such a simple method.
Soak the "wound"
First you need to take a syringe of any capacity (you can use it) and fill the recess on the furniture with clean water. The moisture is absorbed within 3-5 minutes. During this time, the surface becomes noticeably smoother, as the wood absorbs liquid and the fibers tighten the damage.
It is advisable to use a piece of film or waterproof fabric at this stage. They cover the problem area with it so that the water does not evaporate, but is sucked in by the tree.
For hard rocks, the procedure needs to be complicated. Some liquid is injected into the recess to pierce the fibers. Then the dent is poured in the same way and the water is left on the surface for some time.
Smoothing the tree
The next step is ironing the wood through a soft cloth. You will need an iron with steam option and a piece of cotton or linen folded in several layers.
The temperature should be medium, you do not need to increase it too much. The fabric is ironed with light circular motions, sometimes removing the iron. After about a minute, the hot steam will finally return the surface to its original state.
If the fossa is very tiny, you can use a metal disc or other flat piece when smoothing.
The iron will heat up the metal rather quickly and the liquid will evaporate. At the same time, the surface of the cabinet or table will not be affected by the high temperature.
Finish is applied to dried furniture - polish or transparent varnish. This will protect the restored tree from possible damage and also give it a fresh look.
