If the bathtub is combined with a toilet, the amount of air supplied doubles. That is why the question of how to make ventilation in the bathroom is acute for the owners of any residential property.
Most often, the work of natural ventilation in the bathroom does not meet the requirements of SNiP, so you have to build forced ventilation in the bathroom with your own hands.
Installation of ventilation in the bathroom with your own hands
Do-it-yourself bathroom ventilation is usually an exhaust fan. It is installed in the ventilation duct. The principle of operation of this ventilation scheme in the bathroom: the fan draws air from the bathroom into the general ventilation system of the house. The air in the room is discharged, so instead of it fresh air is drawn in from other rooms.
To check if forced ventilation is needed in the bathroom, you should check for natural draft:
- Take a small piece of thin paper;
- Open the bathroom door and any window;
- Bring the sheet to the exhaust grill. If the paper holds and does not fall, the thrust is normal. Otherwise, it is necessary to equip forced ventilation in the bathroom.
How to choose a bathroom fan
The basis of the ventilation scheme in the bathroom is the exhaust fan. There are many modifications on sale, which one should you choose?
- The hum from the fan should be no more than 35 decibels;
- The fan power should provide five to eight times the air exchange per hour.
According to the type of installation, all fans are divided into:
- duct (installed directly in the ventilation duct);
- radial (at the entrance to the ventilation duct). They are more often used for arranging ventilation in the bathroom.
Before making ventilation in the bathroom, there is no need to install exhaust ducts. The fan is installed directly into the exhaust duct outlet. However, if the shaft does not pass near the bath, you will have to pull the duct pipe. If the shaft exit is located in a toilet that is through a wall, you can make a ventilation hole in this wall, cover it with a grill and install a fan in the toilet shaft.
